Hi! My name is Michael DeBruin. Welcome to my portfolio. I am a graduate of and a Sessional Instructor at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). My diploma reflects a specialization in animation and video game development with honours standing. I teach in the department of Digital Media & Information Technology.
My previous adventures include 15+ years as a graphic designer working in advertising, print media and illustration. I returned to school to develop new skills and realize my passion for visual storytelling.

What could be better than sharing your stories with the world?
For me there is no greater pursuit than putting my talents to use crafting narrative. My foundation in illustration and 3D modelling allows me to create new worlds and populate them with my creations. Theoretical and technical instruction, self-guided learning, and practice keep me growing as an artist and visual storyteller.
My professional background has provided me with a diverse set of opportunities. I have worked with amazing clients, creative directors and co-conspirators across many industries. Working with, for, or at the head of a team has yielded rewards for myself and the team. In collaboration we grow and thrive. A big part of my success has come from cooperative situations. By both learning from and mentoring teammates we have accomplish more than the sum of our parts.
I have put together a diverse set of tools that enable me to meet a wide range of challenges head on. This conscious effort is well suited to successful collaboration and meaningful creative work. I look forward to continuing my creative journey and sharing my vision with all of you.
